Online Workshops
As well as 1:1 coaching, I offer online parent workshops via zoom. All workshops are organised in small groups, which allows greater opportunities for parents to ask questions around a particular theme, in a more informal, supportive and relaxed atmosphere. Workshops are not recorded. See below for upcoming workshops and dates.
Regulation Workshop Series
My five workshop series is a perfect introduction to better understanding regulation challenges for your neurodivergent child, and how to begin supporting them at home. This series is for you if you are looking to learn about different sensory triggers, what dysregulation can look like and how it might be masked, how to support your child during and after a meltdown, understanding the development of emotional regulation and supportive routines at home.
Regulation Series - Workshops 1 and 2
Wednesday 5th February, 8.30pm: Understanding your dysregulated child
Wednesday 12th February, 8.30pm: Supporting your dysregulated child
The first workshop will be an introduction and overview to understanding the reasons as to why your neurodivergent child might be dysregulated, and an overview of different sensory profiles. We will explore sensory triggers, what dysregulation can look like and how it can be missed or masked both at home and in school. I will explain different concepts to better understand how dysregulation is cumulative and how this might be presenting through challenging behaviour/big emotions at home. We will discuss your child’s nervous system and how their sensory needs might affect regulation.
The second workshop will focus on practical strategies to support your dysregulated child. I will be concentrating on proactive parenting tools that can be put in place daily and across the week, both at home and when travelling away from home. We will briefly discuss support in school, but this is explored further in my ‘Advocating for your child in school’ workshop.
For both of these workshops, I will be drawing upon all my professional experience and training, as well as parenting a neurodivergent child to offer advice and support.
Home Educating Session 1 - How do I home educate my child? What does home education/flexi-schooling look like?
Monday 27th January, 8.30pm (£10)
My first home education workshop! I will be running monthly virtual meet ups for home ed families, which will be led as part workshop led by me and part Q&A led by your questions.
In this first workshop I will be sharing different models and ways of home educating children, whether you prefer to stick to a more formal style following the curriculum used in schools, if you want to let your child’s interests lead their learning, follow an unschooled style of learning, or perhaps a mix of everything!
We will discuss different ways to present learning, resources that might be helpful, different ways to record learning and lots of top tips from me as both a former teacher and a parent currently home educating. This workshop is suitable for families with or without neurodivergent children, or a good mix of all brains!
Let’s chat all things home ed and hopefully you will leave feeling empowered and supported with your child’s learning journey at home.
Regulation Series Workshop 3: How to support your neurodivergent child before and after school
Wednesday 19th February, 8.30pm
This workshop would also also helpful for children who don’t go to school (home ed families), focusing on routines before and after days out or big events as well as regulation throughout the day.
The workshop will focus on how to support your child before and after school (morning and end of the day routines), exploring a range of regulation ideas and strategies to support your neurodivergent child. I will discuss how to create opportunities for sensory play, calming sensory input, as well as discussing how to plan the right activities in the afternoon. We will look at how to create morning routines that might work for your child, and how the journey to school can be used to support regulation. The workshop will also cover how to use regulation tools and buffers around challenging parts of the week, and how these might be used at the weekend to support your child.
Advocating for your child in school
Monday 10th February, 8.30pm
A workshop that was originally asked for by my Instagram community, and has been hugely successful with lots of positive school meetings and support being put in place.
How do parents advocate for their child in school? What is the best way to organise a positive and collaborative meeting with the class teacher and/or SEND Coordinator? What is a pupil passport and how to create one for your child? What are reasonable adjustments and who is entitled to them? What do those accommodations look like, and what support can parents expect from mainstream schools? Does your child need a diagnosis to receive support, and what might change with one?
I will be explaining the importance of brain, movement and sensory breaks, as well as having access to sensory kits/regulation tools in school. Having been a teacher for many years, I will be sharing both personal and professional experience and advice.
You will leave this workshop feelings empowered to advocate for your child in the next school meeting!
Regulation Series Workshop 4: Meltdowns
Wednesday 26th February, 8.30pm
In this workshop we will start by looking at the difference between meltdowns, tantrums and shut downs and beginning to understand why they might happen. We will then explore how to support your child in the moment (during a meltdown) including words/phrases that might be helpful and how to create a mantra to support you as the parent/carer. I will be discussing how and when to discuss challenging behaviours with your child and how best to support their nervous system after a meltdown. The workshop will also cover how to manage meltdowns in public, what is the meltdown-loop and how to regulate yourself when your child having a meltdown. This workshop can stand alone, but I will be referring back to topics discussed in Part 1 of the Regulation series as they are designed to support you best as a series.
Regulation Series Part 5: Emotional Regulation
Wednesday 5th March, 8.30pm
What is emotional regulation? What does emotional dysregulation look like? In this workshop we will discuss age appropriate expectations of child development and understanding the development of self-regulation and the importance of mutual/co-regulation. We will also look at the pros and cons of using zones of regulation with neurodivergent children, the role of modelling and using explicit regulating language at home as well as helping children to visualise emotions and how feelings move through our bodies.
There will be lots of practical strategies for helping your child to develop and learn self-regulation skills, including how to use books and tv characters to support children as an effective strategy and learning resource.
How to talk to your neurodivergent child about their diagnosis
Monday 10th March, 8.30pm
A highly requested workshop! How do you start to explain a diagnosis with your child? What does it mean to be autistic or dyslexic? What does an ADHD diagnosis mean? What strategies or ideas will help open up this discussion with your child?
The workshop will cover how to explain the neurodivergent brain, possible challenges and also your child’s strengths.
I will also discuss the importance of conversations with siblings and other family members, and how to open a discussion around neurodiversity.
